Building Ruby Web Apps with Rack and Sinatra (and Hacker Hours)
Details
Hi All,
I hope everyone is taking care to stay safe and dry this week. I've been putting off sending this out because I know most of us NY'ers have a lot more to worry about than meetups right now, but the 'last responsible moment' (http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2006/10/the-last-responsible-moment.html) is fast approaching, so I'd like to take a minute to invite you all to next week's Ruby Blind meetup.
I'm extremely proud to present Tom Black, U.S. Navy veteran, tech entrepreneur, and software developer, who will be presenting next week on building lightweight web apps with Rack and Sinatra. I had the pleasure of seeing him speak at the Flatiron School (http://flatironschool.com/) a few weeks ago and was blown away. Tom methodically and entertainingly leads you through the basics of the client/server relationship, and how Rack middleware and Sinatra's DSL can allow you to get your Ruby web app up and running in no time. For those of you just getting into Rails land, this is an eye-opening look at some of what is going on 'under the hood' in a rails app. Tom will be leading you through building simple Rack/Sinatra apps, so as usual be sure to bring your laptop, and of course there will be the customary cornucopia of pizza/beer.(NOTE: if you'd like a very basic overview of what Rack middleware and Sinatra are, check out a recent blogpost of mine (http://blog.seldomatt.com/blog/2012/10/23/middlewhere-rack-and-sinatra/) ; )
That's all for now, hope to see a bunch of you next week, and good luck to everyone in Gotham and the tri-state toughing it out this week!
