"Elixir for the Functional Rubyist" - Johnny Winn
Details
This month we're insanely excited to welcome Rocketeer Johnny Winn to Ruby Ireland to talk Elixir with us!
When not orbiting the planet with @Hashrocket (https://twitter.com/Hashrocket), Johnny can be found evangelizing all things Ruby and Elixir and is an organizer for @ruby_jax (https://twitter.com/ruby_jax), @ancientcityruby (https://twitter.com/ancientcityruby) and @jaxfunc (https://twitter.com/jaxfunc). He's also the curator of@elixirfountain (https://twitter.com/elixirfountain). Phew! Where does he find the time?!?
Elixir is a pretty hot topic at the moment. In case you haven't come across it, Elixir is a functional, meta-programming aware language built on top of the Erlang VM. As the website (http://elixir-lang.org) for Exilir says, it is "a dynamic language that focuses on tooling to leverage Erlang's abilities to build concurrent, distributed and fault-tolerant applications with hot code upgrades." And it seems to be appealing to a lot of Rubyists.
Finally, one last thing to note this month, is Ruby Ireland has never formally produced a code of conduct for attendees. But we'd like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to this anti-harassment policy (https://www.engineyard.com/community/anti-harassment-statement) Engine Yard have produced which has our full support. Ruby Ireland is committed to being an inclusive and friendly community. We'd like to ask for your help in making sure we can all enjoy these meetups and continue to make the Irish tech community a place we can be proud of.
