Presenter: Michael Feathers Member of Technical Staff, Groupon Author, Working Effectively with Legacy Code Ninja Secrets of the Enumerable Masters

The Enumerable module and the Array class in Ruby have quite a few methods - some of them are rather obscure. Few people realize that just about all of what you need to do functional programming is baked into these constructs. In this talk, Michael will describe some interesting ways to compose methods on Enumerable and talk about where and when the functional style is appropriate.

Bio: Michael Feathers is member of the technical staff at Groupon. Prior to joining Groupon, he was the Chief Scientist at Obtiva, a Ruby on Rails consultancy. Over the past 15 years he has consulted with hundreds of organizations, helping them general software design issues, process change, and code revitalization. Michael is also the author of the book "Working Effectively with Legacy Code" (Prentice Hall, 2004) and is a sought after presenter at national and international conferences.

The best meetup so far. Groupon has an amazing new facility, and there were lots of great startup entrepreneurs in attendance. Michael Feathers gave an excellent talk and the audience had many insightful comments to add to the discussion. And they had the best food and beverage selection in their palatial kitchen.
