Introduction to HTML and CSS for Designers

The future is responsive and you simply can't articulate the fluidity needed for it on paper (or in Photoshop). If you're a designer for the web, the future is being able to design in browser, and to do that, you're going to need to know HTML and CSS. Let's get you started on that path.

Location

This meetup will be held at Meetup HQ! Their front page is closed, so use the entrance at 166 Crosby Street.

Sponsors

NBCUniversal's O&TS Publishing Team is sponsoring refreshments for the meetup and the awesome people at Meetup are hosting us.

Presenters

Kiko Doran:

First off, I hate writing about myself in the third person. I am on a life long quest to write custom code faster than anyone. My daily weapons are HTML, CSS, Sass, Foundation, Compass, and WordPress. My dream job would be teaching web development to eager people every day.

Sam Richard:

I'm going to be presenting as well. For those who don't know me, I'm the Senior Front End Developer for NBCUniversal, organize this meetup group, co-organize the New York Sass meetup, and am helping to put on the firs-ever Sass Conference.

I believe you are referring to zen coding. They make a plugin for virtually every text editor.

Hey gang! I'm here and realize the entrance is a bit non-descript. You're heading to 166 Crosby, next to PetSmart, at the corner of Bleeker. 9th floor, all the way down

I am so looking forward to this! Will the event be streamed, Sam? Thank you.

    October 23, 2012

    • Sam R.

I'm not sure if it'll be streamed, I unfortunately don't think so, but Kiko and I are going to be doing full screen captures of the presentations and those will be posted after the meetup.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone who is already familiar with CSS and HTML would donate their RSVP to a newbie :) i am on the hopeful waiting list

Change made. Thank you Walter. If you're still interested in coming, keep a look out for the waitlist attendance policy for this event, you'll probably be able to make it in if you'd like.

Does this venue require our names that are on our IDs, or will they just verify us by our usernames on Meetup? If they do require our full name, where should we send the names to?

    October 1, 2012

    • Sam R.

      Usernames will be fine.

For those looking for other classes Noble Desktop offers some good free sessions, and has been getting into developing more design oriented classes to go with their software courses.

    Sounds good on all counts.
I'm closing in on a time/place for the meetup, it's probably going to be the 25th, just waiting on confirmation from the venue.

prefer normal meetup length, weekend or weekday is fine, HTML and CSS specific to designers not beginners (how to do type in a circle! that type of insight), as a repeat offering if you have dynamic speakers ;-)

Hi Anna, 3rd ward has a class in omnigraffle, but I agree there isn't much offered for non-degree classes. Also, General Assembly and Skillshare offer one night classes/lectures.

Weekends would work best for me. Preferably a Saturday. Interested in a 2-3 hour one time event for integrating and modifying sites to be responsive.

I would be interested in learning UI and UX design. I been looking for some classes to take, but besides degree programs, could not find so much practical information. (Any suggestions?)
We have some people in the group who doing this on every day base, may be they will create class or presentation?

    June 29, 2012

  • Sam R.

It will more likely be somewhere in Manhattan unfortunately.
