The Sacramento Hiking Meetup Group Pages

Welcome to the Sacramento Hiking Meetup group! If you're new to Meetup or hiking in general, we extend a warm welcome to you as you'll find our group to be lively, energetic, and above all share a passion for the great outdoors. This year marks our 7th anniversary making us one of the premier hiking group with the largest membership in the Sacramento area. We value each one of our fellow hikers and appreciate their input and participation. Please feel free to check our calendar and come to any event that suits your hiking need. Our group's meetup is a social networking site that brings folks of like interest together. It's the venue that connects us, the group, with you, the hiker. This way we have a great way to find hikes, find others to join us, and of course, to have fun. Be prepared to dive into the world of the Sacramento Hiking Meetup Group.

Our hikes typically range from 6-10 miles in length, easy/moderate to strenuous in difficulty, and are geared toward young adult to active seniors. Most hikes are located within 30 minutes to 3 hours away (most people meet at local locations and carpool to the trailhead). Our day hikes generally starts at 8 or 9 am and will last pretty much most of the day. We do other events related to hiking such as backpacking and snow-shoeing. All levels are welcome and we do no judgements whatsoever. We currently have members who are very experienced and some who had never hiked before.

Our hikes vary in difficulty from easy, such as Spenceville Wildlife Area, to difficult: Half Dome, in Yosemite. During full moons we will normally get one or two night hikes in as well to vary what is offered.

NOTE: The Sacramento Hiking Meetup group is made-up of individuals who share the trail with others of similar passions. We like to hike in a group setting and therefore adhere to the group's situational needs. Our hikes are NOT guided events but rather led by a hiking organizer(s). These organizers put in the hard work of finding a great trail, mapping (or scouting ahead), estimating the time, travel, elevation changes, and difficulty. Out of courtesy to our members and respect to our organizers, we charge no annual fees or dues. We do however, will accept a small token of $1.00 (or more in appreciation) to each event you sign up to. This way, our organizer(s) is rewarded directly for his/her hard work. When you RSVP you'll see all the other members who have RSVP'd as well. Everyone is responsible for their own safety and please check the SHMG's liability release. www.meetup.com/Sacramento-Hiking/pages/Liability_Release/. Join us, get outside, and feel the air!

We also need your help. Coming up with ideas takes brainpower: lots of it. Most of the ideas don't come from the Organizer or Assistant Organizers; they come from the members. You may at any time submit an idea to any organizer through email, phone, or on the message board.
