In this meetup, I teach hands-on skills such as: Shelter building, fire making (bow drill, hand drill, fire plow, etc), flint knapping, brain-tanning, tracking, bow making, cordage, containers, land navigation, nature awareness and more. Additionally, we have had an excellent knife-making and forging class from a group member who is also a professional blacksmith. I try to make my classes about 20% talking and 80% doing. If there's a group member who's an expert or pro in any area of expertise that relates to this subject, I am happy to let them teach classes too.
I also lead the San Antonio Wilderness Medicine and Herbology Meetup located at

Aside from a lot of exposure to wilderness camping with my family as a child, I was a US Special Forces medic, and have attended classes, seminars and schools relating to this subject over the past 25+ years.
I taught survival in the military in the early 90's, and also for an outdoor education school in CO that is no longer around. I spent several years working on these skills by myself in forced isolation ranging from a few days to a few weeks with little to no gear.
Although I have a military background, I teach from an extremely earth and eco-centric standpoint. This is not "deforest and conquer" survival.
http://www.thehumanpath.com will give you more information about what this is about, and the types of skills that I teach.
Hi All,
There have been a lot of folks asking about when the next certification class will be. I'm planning on doing it the 5th and the 12th of December, two Saturdays in a row just like last time.
The cost will be $80.00 for the whole class - which comes out to $40.00 per day, or $5.00 per hour. This is about half to 1/3 the price you can find this certification anywhere that I know of in TX or the USA. Read more
