Overview: A moderate, urban walk, mostly sidewalk. Distance 7.4 miles. Duration 3 hours. Total elev gain 500 ft. We'll be walking briskly. This is not a flat, easy stroll. Route map is below in Photos section.
Route: We'll start in Old Town, then head uphill into Presidio Park, passing by the Witches Tower and Fort Stockton. We'll admire the Junipero Serra Museum (photo above) which can be seen on the hillside from I-8, but we won't go inside. East through Mission Hills, hugging the rim of Mission Valley, marveling at the architecture of the homes. When we reach the UCSD medical center, we'll turn back to the west and go downhill through Mission Hills Park, returning to our starting point in Old Town. Plenty of coffee shops in Old Town, for those who want to relax afterwards.
Hazards: Everyone will need to be alert for vehicles, because we'll be walking on a few streets without sidewalks, and crossing quite a few streets. No need for walking poles on this walk.
Start time: Meet at 9:00am, start walking 9:05am.
Where: Meet at free parking lot 'C' in Old Town at 4015 Twiggs St
Restrooms: Public restrooms in Old Town State Park, near our start/end point. Also in Presidio Park.
