In conjunction with City of Santa Cruz Economic DevelopmentCruzio, and NextSpace, SCNT MeetUp presents: Celebrating Tech Innovation in Santa Cruz - a series of 3 monthly (Sept, Oct, Nov) events celebrating the successes, journeys, and best practices of tech innovation in Santa Cruz.

We begin each session with "Wait, Wait, Don't Tech Me", an update from Sara Isenberg / Santa Cruz Tech Beat on the top 3 tech stories in Santa Cruz.

Next up: Charles Vaske with Five3 Genomics will kick off the night with their secret formula for attracting one of the top biotech investors on the planet! Mark Zimmer  Mark Zimmer - Author of Painter, Apple engineer, and Relativistic Observer - will talk about the magic behind Fractal Design and MetaCreations. Justin Laing will talk about the recent acquisition of his company by Lightspeed.  Chris Randolp and Daniel Heppner will share their journey on how the Aptos HS Robotics Club beat out 29 teams for the international underwater robotics competition.

Continuing the exciting Pitch Sessions - three (3) individuals/teams will be given 3 minutes each to pitch their startup idea to a team of mentors. Mentors will then have 2 minutes to deliver feedback. Qualification to pitch: you must have a pitch deck that can be presented in 3 minutes, and you must be actively working on your idea/startup in Santa Cruz. For consideration, please complete this short form. This session will be moderated by Andrew Mueller and Margaret Rosas of TechRaising

I know. I really want to go but being our last couple of days in town before an intense week of production in Atlanta, I'd like to spend the time with my sweetie. I'd also trade it for two non-VIP tix. ;-)

Awesome. Contacted by the President of the Aptos High Robotics Club who has Seat 5. I had Seat 4. Now he gets to take his girlfriend. Having enjoyed their presentation last week, I'm glad I could make that happen. Take a picture Chris and send it to me. Enjoy!

Would any of you be interested in starting a sub-group of Santa Cruz New Tech Meetup that focuses on technology development that supports "Social Innovation" and "Social Entrepreneurship"? (what is social innovation: )

I liked hearing from Justin about the decision Lightspeed made regarding placing their West Coast Cloud operations in Santa Cruz rather than SF. The competition for jobs and wage is far more challenging in SF than in Santa Cruz. And, we have 35,000+ residents in Santa Cruz who drive The Hill (Hwy 17) every day to a job in the Silicon Valley. Let's continue to build on our rich history of tech successes spawned in Santa Cruz!

So to be included, we had to start in Santa Cruz? That's a bummer! It's the first time I've felt like an outsider since moving our business here 12 years ago.

Susan, Nothing has been nailed down and Todd's suggestion is just that -- a suggestion. It could be tech companies currently located in Santa Cruz, not necessarily started here. It's still just a concept. All is TBD.
