If any code wranglers out there want to change the world and make a positive impact on society as a whole... I need a colleague who knows something about Force.com or Drupal or is just a good utility coder, willing to do what it takes to get it done. Check us out at http://www.bcorporation.net/ The tagline says it all - Using the Power of Business to solve Social and Environmental problems.

We really enjoyed last night, presenting and listening to 2 other innovative startups. The questions were all excellent! Reaching a mass market with an energy efficient consumer electronics product that is manufactured locally in the Bay Area may sound crazy but we love a challenge and would like to prove that it can be done. Finally, kudos to Doug for great job putting it all together.

I'd like to plant a possibility seed for SCNewTech in the New Year: Technology is cool. SOCIALLY APPLIED tech goes beyond to make positive differences in people's lives - The new cool! We enjoy the pleasures of technology - mentally, emotionally, physically … even spiritually. Now let's consider how we can share our 'wealth' with those who don’t have the same opportunities. How can our beach community participate? How can Santa Cruz be an exemplar showing others how to design build & apply tech in ways beyond what we thought possible? Food for thought:
*GreenITers use tech to advance knowledge, expand awareness, & spread wisdom. http://greeniters.org/
*99% of people within 1 generation cannot solve this http://vimeo.com/80952800
*Ethical Brand supports disadvantaged communities http://www.ethicalbrand.org

What is happening with social-tech around the globe that you know about? How can we step into this game? I'll be around Wed night, in case you want to connect.

I am curious. We have a world that is moving into the realm of SOCIAL INNOVATION and SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP, while using technology as a platform for making our world a better place. As technologists, we hold a key to enable incredible change within these areas of practice. How do we harness that power? How does a small beach town on the Pacific Coast called 'Santa Cruz', demonstrate how to make the world a better place through our love of technology? We have incredible minds here, as shown through the presentations at S.C. New Tech MeetUps. But I want more. Is there any one else out there who wants more? I want us to be exemplars of how to make an environmentally sound, economically rich, and socially empowering society, done in part by the value of technical innovation. I would like to hear from those you who understand what I am proposing here. What could we become? Vic Desotelle

I want to thank everyone for listening to my presentation on "Project Homeful", a techno-social solution to eliminate homelessness nationwide. I hope to find a couple of you who want to put Santa Cruz on the map as a hot bed for developing, not just cool technologies, but solutions that help to transform our world's problems, such as homelessness. If you see the value in what I am proposing, please contact me for more discussion. Although I am technically savvy, I need hot coders for development of the online portal and initial mobile apps that will enable the homeful movement. Thanks again for listening to my presentation last night. Vic Desotelle :) http://ProjectHomeful.com http://VicDesotelle.com
