Details

Meall nan Tarmachan is one of the easier Munros to reach in good weather thanks to a high level start point, but it is really just the start of a rocky ridge traverse which is one of the most interesting in the Southern Highlands. There is a short scramble involved in the descent of the pointed top of Meall Garbh.

Grade: Hard (please see explanation (https://www.meetup.com/scottish-hillwalkers/pages/Walking_Grades/))

Distance:12km/7.5miles

Ascent: 768m

Time: 5-7 hours

Meetup Location: Ben Lawers car park.

Route: http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/perthshire/meall-nan-tarmachan.shtml

Map: Explorer 378 Lawers

Terrain: Good path leads quickly to the Munro, steep ascent near the top. The path continues along the ridge which is rocky and has a short scramble on the descent from Meall Garbh. Descent is pathless between the bealach and the quarry track. You should have considerable previous hillwalking experience, and know you are fit and surefooted enough to complete the whole walk without a problem.
