User Experience and agile

  • May 23, 2012 · 6:00 PM

This session will be centred around user experience and how it can integrate into agile developments.

We will have an overview of Agile UX from Peter Grierson from REA and then have a panel discussion relating to your real world examples of Agile UX at work

The panel will use a Fishbowl format to allow everyone to take part in the discussion.

NB - This meetup is not on the last Wednesday of the month, as usual, so as not to clash with Agile Australia.

The venue is on St Kilda Road, so please allow for travel time, so that we can start and finish promptly.

PS - If you can no longer attend, please change your RSVP to allow someone else from the waiting list to attend.

From my point of view, it went very well. The venue, Pete's talk and the Fishbowl discussion.

I'm also biased - good discussion and great networking with fellow Agile practitioners

Great experience, but need a little better in organizing part

Loved the session and format. Perhaps consider time boxing each panel contribution where appropriate?
    Very thought provoking eve
I think generally that there is some mismatched understanding of what an MVP is, and therefore the link between MVP and MBA. The two go hand in hand if the hypothesis you're testing involves user behavior. And to what degree that is I think would also drive the requirement for balancing UX debt
    So yes...it depends!
Thanks for putting on a great night!

Discussion pannel was most interesting. Good networking. Few new interesting points in the presentation.

I thought the event was really good. I would have preferred if more time was allocated to the keynote speaker but the structure was really good.

Excellent format in terms of presentation and subsequent panel Q&A. Had a good range of attendees to share experiences and mingle afterwards.

I'm interested to know how much User Research gets done before and during Agile projects....

My UX question is: What experiences have people had with UX design running way ahead of the developer teams's immediate horizon. I think it is a load balancing thing and a similar scenario to bus analyst integration to the team. Am crious to hear other scenarios and solutions.

Hi Heshan, how small the team was and what kind of project they are doing. If the projects are way too small, suggest to use Lean/Kanban instead. Would love to discuss with you and offer my own 5 cents

Thanks Chris. Was on train using the meetup app :-)

I've heard some UX'ers say that UX is not agile, it's waterfall. So I'd like hear some arguments to counter that comment. Thanks, can't wait for this session!

Heshan, just based on your 2 line comment, I think a lean flow (eg Kanban) maybe more appropriate. Happy to find out more about your situation and discuss more at the next meetup.

Although this might not be ux but how to run scrum-agile in a small team where each dev is leading their own separate project.

Hi folks, Are there any topics that you want to cover during the Panel Discussion? It would be helpful for panellists to have a heads up as to what's important to you. Don't forget, the panel is in a Fishbowl format, so there will be a rotation of panellists.

Also, judging by the response to this meetup, there is demand for some followup sessions, later in the year AND also a case for UX sessions or a stream at LAST Conference. http://lastconference.com

Hey @John Robertson - we already have a location organised for this meetup at SEEK's offices ... any reason you changed it to Thoughtworks?

Simon. Many thanks for volunteering Seek HQ and the food!
Neil. That would be good, the more the merrier.
Might think about having a Fish Bowl or Park Bench format for the panel to mix it up a bit…

I'm happy to be a panelist if you don't get enough developers, PO's or UX folk :) I'm currently a ScrumMaster but I've worked as both a developer and PO so happy to contribute if required.

Looking forward to seeing everyone here at SEEK HQ. There will be food and drink provided to reward you for trekking out to the wilds of St Kilda Road!
