Announcing a new Meetup for The Greater Bay Area Scuba Lovers Meetup!
What: Night dive in Monterey!
When: Saturday, July 3,[masked]:00 PM
Cannery Row x Foam St Monterey, CA
Monterey, CA 93940
Ok, it's time to plan another night diving event. I'm interested in hearing suggestions from the group as to venue. Have a favorite spot you'd like to share? Tell me about it!
To seed the conversation, I'm going to propose the usual- first dive out to Metridium Fields on San Carlos beach, second dive along the Breakwater wall. I'm planning this way so that we can park and stay in the same lot for both dives. If you're interested in an alternate plan (Lover's perhaps), feel free to chime in.
Sunset is around 8:30 pm, so I'm going to propose that we meet and brief the first dive at 6:00, and start the dive at 6:30. We would plan to be out of the water by 7:30. We'd then take some time to relax, eat some snacks and warm up, and get back in for the second dive at 8:30 pm.
I'd really like to stick to a schedule, so if it takes you more than 15 minutes to gear up, please be there getting ready before 6:00 (I know I will be). After dive #2, I'd love for us to meet somewhere for dinner and a beer. I suggest Gianni's.
As always, I'm flexible about any of these plans. If you'd like to propose something different, I'm all ears. I just want to get us out diving and having fun!
Whether you're new to the group and trying to get connected, you're signed up and attending all the events you can, or you've been meaning to head out with this group for a while but haven't gotten around to it, this is a perfect opportunity. At night, the rocks explode with color as shrimp, crab, and other exciting creatures come out to play among the anemones. Octopus hunt along the sandy seafloor. It's an exciting time to be underwater.
ADDED BONUS: I'll provide plenty of hot cocoa for chilly bodies in between dives. And I'm bringing marshmallows :)
A few things to remember: bring a tanklight so we know where you are. Bring a flashlight so you know where you are. Bring an extra light in case the first one burns out, and you forget where you are. If you don't own, you can rent lights from many local shops for a reasonable price.
Finally, if you're new to diving or haven't been out in a while, please contact me in advance. You're absolutely welcome to join us, but I'd like to meet with you in advance to talk about some of the differences in protocol and experiences between night and day diving.
I look forward to seeing you there!
