Knitting Meetup welcome message - Jan 2010

Hi knitters,

I have just set up a "Welcome message" for new members of our meetup.  I wrote it this morning & set it to start going out to new members starting now.  I wanted to echo a copy of this message to the list, so that all of you know what new members are being told about the meetup.  If you have any questions or comments (or corrections!) to this message, please write back & let me know.

And please notice the part where I am asking new members to set up an Introduction, Photo, and answers to knitting profile questions.  If you are already a member.... and haven't set these up... please do it!  Having photos & introductions makes the meetup look friendly & active.  Which we are!  Remember that your profile entries are searchable by Google, so don't reveal stuff in them that you don't want made public, especially if you are using your real name as your meetup user name.   Hint: I'm NOT using my real name as my meetup name.

happy knitting!

======= Welcome Message for new members =========

Welcome, knitter & thank you for joining our meetup; we look forward to knitting with you!

Santa Clara Valley Knitting Meetup focuses on two official meeting nights per month:

- first Wednesday at the Peet's Coffee in Saratoga (very close to Hwy 85 & De Anza)

- third Wednesday at Orchard Valley Coffee (across from Green Planet Yarns) in Campbell

As of January 2010, we're also trying to set up 2nd Wednesday meetings in Willow Glen.

To participate in our meetup, bring your knitting to the designated location, grab something to eat or drink (because we support the venues who host our large noisy flock) and come knit with us.

If you are brand new to knitting, please send email to the organizers before you come so we can designate someone to help you learn to knit.  Bring US size 7 needles (straight or circular), smooth yarn and your willing brain and we'll get you started.

Meetings are very flexible and start around 7 pm.  At 8 pm, we break for Show-and-Tell.  Sometimes the organizers take photos & post the shared items to our photo gallery - and you are welcome to post photos, too!

Between meetings, use the mailing list to keep in touch and post questions.  And our calendar lists other knitting groups in the area, in case Wednesday nights don't work.

If you are a member of ravelry, you can join our ravelry group and share your projects with us, so we can ooh and aah over each other's progress between meetings.

Last thing - in your meetup profile, there is space for a PHOTO, an INTRODUCTION and some PROFILE QUESTIONS about your knitting life.  Please fill them out, so we can get to know you.  Be aware that the contents of these descriptions are public, i.e: Google-able, and act accordingly.

If you have any questions, write to me.

Happy knitting until we meet in person
