I was planning to give a talk in December, but I got pulled out of the country for almost a month, and now there isn't enough time to put one together and book a facility. That said, I'd like to get together before the year is over just socially, and to try and get some ideas from you on what events you'd like to see next year.
I'll be trying to book some more speakers from Google, as they become available. But also a couple of us were brainstorming the idea of doing some very casual hackathons where you can come bring what you're working on, and we can help each other figure out whatever problems you're having. I know Android pretty well, and a few of the other APIs, but not so much on AppEngine or GWT. That said, if you bring a question and we can't figure it out during the hackathon, I have some contacts in Google that I can forward your questions to and try to get an answer. What do you think? Interested? What else would you like to see?
As for the winter get-together, it wouldn't be subsidized by the group or by Google, so whatever bar we go to you'd have to buy your own drinks. But it would be a lot of fun to hang out in just a kick-back environment. How many would be interested in going? I was thinking the week of Monday, December 19th. Anyone have a favorite bar? I'd like to see how many people are interested in coming so I can make a reservation and guarantee us a spot.
Also, on a side note, I'll be at this event tomorrow just hanging out if anyone is interested in stopping by :)
Thanks and have a happy holiday!
