Live demo of Pig and Hive running on a MapR Hadoop cluster

It has been a quite a while since we met last time and time is running like crazy. This time will meet at Cirrascale facility near Poway Costco - thanks for venue arrangements by Robin.

David Kewley of MapR will do a live demo of Pig and Hive in a MapR Hadoop cluster.

In the spirit of helping people come up to speed with Hadoop, this session will be giving a basic demonstration of Pig and Hive, by running Pig and Hive code to process an interesting data set on a live MapR cluster. It will then look at this data using external tools that query the Hive tables using ODBC and JDBC.

This should give newbies a good basic idea what can be done with Pig and Hive, along with some of the details of how this is accomplished. Experienced attendees will also have a chance to contribute to the discussion by sharing their own ideas and experience with these tools.
