Who are you?
San Diego's own SDAnimanga Club (http://www.sdanimanga.net/), of course. Says so at the top. We've been around since 2004 but haven't been on Meetup for the past couple years. We figured it was time to share one of SD's best kept secrets with other cool fans in the area so what better way to get the word out than with Meetup! Our purpose is to discuss and help promote Japanese anime and manga, as well as provide a fun place for you to hang-out with like-minded fans for people who are still huge fans of anime and manga but no longer have the outlets provided by high school and college clubs (or maybe you're not just getting what you want out of your college club). In addition to discussing everything from anime, manga, video games, and lots of other things on the forum we also have frequent meet-ups for birthdays, screenings, themed events, conventions, parties, book club, raffles and more! We even have an expanding Anime, Manga, and Video Game library available to members in good standing! I know...wow!

Wait...Anime? Manga? That Japanese stuff?
Yep! Our big focus is Japanese animation, manga (comics), and other fun bits of Japanese pop culture. If you're not sure what kind of things we're talking about, you can try the Wikipedia articles on anime and manga as a good starting point. We don't discriminate too much about what kind of anime we show: everything from slow, dramatic things to magical girl shows to mecha to slice of life comedies to the latest stuff out as well as classics. Check out our calendar for upcoming events and screenings.

Do I need to be a certain age to be a member?
All club members are legal adults (as in over the age of 18). Currently all members are 21 years of age and over. At many of our meetings, as well as on our website, we have what some may consider questionable content. If you're not 18 years old or older, come back after a few more birthdays. One of the appealing things about the club is it provides a place for people who are still huge fans of anime and manga but no longer have the outlets provided by high school and college clubs (or are looking for something more than what their college club provides).

How do I join?
Just come to a meeting! There aren't any complicated rituals or fees involved. If you want to know when the next meeting is, check out the calendar our main website at http://www.sdanimanga.net/. To join in the latest discussions register for our forum at http://www.sdanimanga.net/joomla/smf. Meetup.com of course is one place to look but for the latest and greatest check our main website and forum.

When do you meet?
The club holds 3 major events per month: 1) Screenings, 2) Manga Book Club, and 3) Official Meet-ups. Most events will have food, drinks, and raffles on top of whatever is planned for that event!

Screenings take place on the first Saturday of every month. They usually have a theme some examples being Mecha or Taster's Choice where members get to show their own favs. Themes change every month. We don't discriminate too much about what kind of anime we show: everything from slow, dramatic things to magical girl shows to mecha to slice of life comedies to the latest stuff out as well as classics. A typical screening will cover 4-6 episodes of different Anime with an intermission for food, drinks, and a raffle. It’s the perfect opportunity to kick back with friends, have some fun, and catch a few episodes on the big screen…or should I say wall of someone’s apartment? (We have a projector lol).

Manga Book Club takes place on the second Thursday of every month. It provides a way for members to meet up each month to discuss a selected volume of manga. Usually there is a poll in the forum where members choose a series and everyone reads volume 1 to discuss together.

Official Meet-ups take place on the third Saturday of every month. These are our big social events for the month. For example this December we’re planning on holding a White Elephant Party and Potluck with custom Anime/Manga games made by us just for the club (probably an anime Scene It game created by myself and the Vice President)! These events are the perfect opportunity to come out and socialize with anime and manga fans in a social setting from BBQs at Mission Bay to Laser Tag to Karaoke...there's always something different going on each month so come and join the fun.

So no matter how busy your schedule may be it’s likely you can find time to come enjoy what the club has to offer at least once a month. To recap important dates just remember:

Screenings - 1st Saturday of the month
Manga Book Club - 2nd Thursday of the month
Meet-ups - 3rd Saturday of the month
