SDiOS SIG #43 - Xcode 6 & iOS 8 Live: What's New for App Developers

Note: We are back at UCSD Extension for this meeting - with a triple room for seating an expected new record SDiOS attendance. As our presenter this time is a professor there, UCSD Extension is promoting this meeting as a special event.

For this meeting UCSD Extension professor Norman McEntire (Servin Corporation) presents Xcode 6 & iOS 8 Live: What's New for App Developers.

Norman founded Servin Corporation in 1995 to focus on Software Technology Training for Software Technology Professionals™. He uses his unique "show it live and in action" style to train thousands of software developers in nearly every major technology company.

With degrees in Computer Engineering, Norman has designed and built everything from low-level chips to complete computer systems, and from device drivers to end-user software for desktop, web and mobile. He offers Corporate Training, Servin Bootcamps and UCSD Extension courses.

Apple's iOS 8 is the most significant and feature-packed mobile software ever! In this exciting and fast-paced presentation, using both Swift and Objective-C live in Xcode 6, Norman will show all the major new features: Swift Playground, Modern Objective-C, Swift and Objective-C interoperability, creating Frameworks, new Storyboard and UIKit features, Application Extensions, CloudKit, HomeKit, HealthKit and more!

Whether you are a total beginner, or an experienced iOS developer, you will leave this live demonstration filled with new skills and knowledge that you can immediately put to use.

Our educational and professional/social networking meetings follow our ICAM theme (Ideas, Coding, Art and Marketing). Artists and developers alike will find something of interest - with their various experiences and perspectives contributing to the enrichment of our group.

Come early - bring your friends - get involved - and have fun sharing and learning about the exciting and potentially rewarding world of iOS app development.

Whether you are a professional, hobbyist, beginner or just curious - all are welcome at SDiOS!

We had at least 81 in attendance, 47 returning, 34+ first-timers, and 11 at the dinner after!

Norman was AMAZING - gracefully going the full 1.75 hours - all with live demo - keeping the whole room totally engaged!

The demo gods were well appeased - in a few cases thanks to some very sharp/attentive, knowledgable/experienced attendees catching subtle errors along the way.

Thanks to all for participating in an AWESOME event!

The same effective presentation method he used in the class I took from him 2 summers ago, concise and to the point. I learned a lot and at the same time enjoyed his presentation immensely as I did his class. Norman is a fabulous teacher!

One week until this not-to-be-missed Special Event SDiOS meeting #43! We will have plenty of room, so please RSVP and join us in learning about the full spectrum of iOS 8 goodies for developers with live demonstrations in Xcode 6 by the multitalented Norman McEntire!

These meetings are as much about professional/socal networking as they are about education, so be sure and come early (around 6:00 PM), interact with Norman during the presentation, and stay after to get to know lots of local folks making a living doing iOS development, learning how, and/or just having fun with the experience!

Some of us gather at UTC Red Robin for more social interaction after the meeting (about 8:45 PM to close) so don't miss out on that if you are interested!

We are very grateful for the generosity UCSD Extension has shown us and their continued dedication to accommodating us whenever they can! As our group continues to grow, it gets harder to fit us all in available rooms, but we will do our best to find a venue for our meetings each month so we can continue to welcome everyone and not cancel any meetings.

With our growth comes a heavier workload to keep SDiOS running. I have done most of this work myself so far, but I really need some help. Anyone who is willing to help with securing facilities, securing presenters, getting the word out, promoting official membership, and/or becoming a board member (of our iTecSD parent non-profit organization) please email me: [masked].

Also, keeping our organization health is critical for our continued existence and ability to secure suitable meeting rooms. So please become an official member of SDiOS by joining iTecSD: Thanks,
