Ruby Open Source Night

  • May 31, 2012 · 7:00 PM

We don't do Pizza on these nights since we try get everyone seated and ready to learn by 7:30pm.  Having said that, there should be plenty of beer and you are welcome to show up any time after 6:30pm.

Same format as the hack night but focussed more on a specific open source project.  It's a great way to learn about collaborating, Github'ing, branching, forking, merging, etc.

This is definitely a fast track to learning the ins and outs of contributing to Open Source.

Apart from a few technical glitches, it was a good meeting.

Might have been more productive if I'd gone through the setup instructions for the SDRuby app before coming to the meeting.

Hi Stanley, we have a couple different flavors of meet up.

This night (the Open Source Night) is dedicated to working on the SDRuby application. We usually have a brief "How to contribute to open source" flavored talk and then pair off to work on open Github tickets.

We also have a hack night which is more a "work on what you want, get feedback, ask questions" kind of night.

First Thursday of every month is 2-3 talks and then beers after at UCSD.

    Hi there,

I'm new to the group and wanted to introduce myself. I'm originally from NY but moved to San Diego two and a half years ago. Most of my days are spent deep in the trenches of RoR development and as of lately, a bit of CoffeeScript-ing.

I'm curious about the format and style of these meetups. Is there typically a speaker, or is it an open-discussion type of environment?

    Best,
    Stanley
