Study of "Boaz's nap"
Details
Following a short review of previous studies in the book of Ruth for the sake of those who may have missed them, we will resume our study at Ruth 3:3. One observer has labeled this chapter of Ruth "Boaz's nap." The same person has summarized the first five verses of this chapter as: "wash up," "dress up," "hurry up," "hold up," "look up," "step up," "lift up," "listen up." This is definitely an "up-lifting" chapter about the godly relationship between and man (Boaz) and a woman (Ruth) which leads from romance to marriage. This study will also introduce us to the subject of redemption since the role that Boaz fulfills is that of a "kinsman-redeemer." Boaz sees in Ruth a virtuous woman and a gift of God. He says, "Blessed be thou of the Lord." He is more than willing to fulfill his role and marry this industrious, godly, loyal woman and proceeds to do all that he can to make sure that this is the ultimate consequence of their relationship. Naomi had given good advice, Ruth had patiently and diligently labored for food and God had providentially brought together these two through whom the Messiah would ultimately be born. Through the dire circumstances with which this book began, God has providentially worked together all things for good to them that love God (compare Romans 8:28). Come and study with us! Everyone is welcome.
