(Thanks for the suggestion, David. :-))
Metropolis is the first great science fiction film, and still one of the best. Recently, about 30 minutes of new footage was discovered in Buenos Aires, fleshing out the story so that it is more complex than just a simple science fiction movie.
I'm hoping they will show the newly restored version, as that's the one that is making the rounds in Chicago, Los Angeles, and elsewhere. Either way, it's a fantastic film, one that influenced a slew of movies that followed, from 2001 to Dark City.
Suggested contribution (for the festival) is $5.

I also would like to meet for a potluck dinner ahead of time. You are welcome to come to the potluck, but if you just want to come to the movie, that's okay, too. We'll meet for the potluck around 5:45. I'll provide a blanket, cups, and plates. For those of you only coming to see the film, try to find us around 6:30.
I'll update this as need be, but if you are planning on attending, let me know if you're coming for the potluck and the movie, or just the movie.
