Let's Cross the Rocky Mountains! It can't be that hard, right?

I've always thought it would be fun to re-trace the route traveled by Alferd Packer, notorious cannibal and failed mountain guide, and what better time to do it than before the snow melts and the winter storms subside?

We can carpool to Utah, where we will begin our trek. I think we pretty much head east, and then bend slightly north from there. After a couple weeks' worth of walking, I'm sure we'll end up at our final destination of Breckenridge, Colorado. What could possibly go wrong?

And also I think we should then go to the University of Colorado-Boulder's campus and have a celebratory meal at the Packer Grill, named for this illustrious man. It's not that much farther west. I mean, east.

This will be schpadoinkle! I hope you can join me. :)

Gear List:
10 essentials, but you probably don't need to bring extra food. Or a map. I think we'll be fine.

Liability Information:
If anything bad happens, I will flee to Wyoming and will probably not get convicted anyway, so don't bother to sue me.

Event inspired by THE BEST MOVIE EVER:
"Cannibal! The Musical" written and produced by Trey Parker

And here's the story of Alferd Packer (he's real)

Real bummer. It started like a stomach flu then progressed over the weekend. I went to the doctor and he diagnosed me as having pseudo Donner syndrome and forbid all foods except braised asparagus spears and Himalayan pink rice. Next time I guess.

Bummer. Though I'm a fan of vegetarian-fed... I mean, vegetarians. Want to come to dinner? No need to bring food, just yourself...

I have been waiting many years for a trip I could really sink my teeth into. Thanks so much for putting this together. I may need to back out at he last minute though because my buck knife is still in the shop. My Coleman two-burner Hibachi and five gallon tank is packed and ready to go though and there is nothing better than traveling light when the snow is heavy. Really looking forward to this.
