Ancient Lakes Overnight

How about a super easy hike in sunny eastern Washington?

We'll leave in the morning from the park & ride (where we will arrange car pools), get to the park and hike a few miles in to find a camping spot.

Looks like we are going to get "partly" sunny weather on Saturday and maybe a little rain on Sunday.   Hurray!

Here's some driving directions from our P&R meeting spot to the park's parking lot.   If you are willing to drive that would be cool.  Looks like we'll need one other driver with a Discovery Pass.

Like Lee said, you may want to pack in all your water for the weekend because the local water is a little gross.   I'll bring a few fake logs to burn if anybody wants to volunteer to pack them in.   I'm not sure it was abundantly clear, but this is a backpacking weekend, so bring your backpack tent and whatnots to keep yourself cheerful overnight...  I mean, we might be a whole 2 miles from our cars.   Egads, even!

It takes about 2.5 hours to drive there, so I'm hoping that we can have plenty of time to explore the place on Saturday, chill out Sunday morning (I'm a huge proponent of sleeping in!), and then see if people want to meet for a late lunch in Ellensburg on the way back to town.

Looking forward to seeing you all!

Basically, you were Moses leading the Hebrews through the deserts of Eastern Washington. (We would have eaten you first if things had gotten ugly. :D )

Really lovely! It was my first time in Eastern Washington -- surprised to see how beautiful the hike was with waterfalls, lakes, and lichen "painted" cliffs. Fun bunch of people to camp with. We also saw a big turkey with two hens. Thanks to Josh for organizing.

Looks neat! Is anyone driving from Seattle (I live by REI, but can meet anywhere in the city)? I have no car, but I'm happy to pitch in gas money.

Highly advisable to bring all the water you need because of the run off from crops above the basin who use see lots of pesticides and fertilizer. I camp there serveral times a year.
