Nacho, Justin, Tinkerbell, Savanah and Faith
This is a true story which occured early this morning in Aurora, Colorado.
So many members have always asked me why I am one of the few organizers who allow dogs to go hiking with us. The best answer I'm able to reply with is, "They are our best friends and if God intended to leave our best friend behind he wouldn't have created the dog". My daughter and Son in Law belong to many, many dog organizations who help place dogs with families who are interested in adoption. Savanah was looking at a website a few days ago and learned there was a 8 month old Golden/lab which was on her last few days before they were going to put her to sleep. Problem was the dog was in the state of Georgia. Savanah helped put together a transfer line which would bring this dog to Colorado, meaning she asked volunteers from different adoptions clinics from Georgia to Colorado to drive this dog from one area to the other...like a relay race. As Savanah tells it there were people who were lined up to help bring this dog to Colorado. She plastered this idea all over facebook, myspace and other on line services and it worked! 1,500 miles and 9 different people brought this dog to Colorado and not one person charged Savanah for gas or meals. My ex-wife and Savanah traveled to Kansas to pick up the dog and on towards her final destination.
My daughter and Son in Law saved this dog's life and on the early morning of July, 20th she saved the live's of Savanah and Justin.
Savanah had just returned home from Kansas with her mom and her new dog (she hadn't been named yet). She called Justin to let him know she was in Colorado and on her way to their home in Aurora. Justin was excited that he has just won 2 tickets to the premier of the new Batman Movie from a radio station. But when he told Savanah they needed to be there around midnight she wasn't to thrilled. As the theater was only a few blocks away they decided to walk. Justin wanted to stop at the Aurora Police Station to talk to the police officers on duty as he was selected to the Colorado State Patrol Academy and had befriended many of the officers at the Aurora Police Station which was just around the corner from the theater.
As Justin won the tickets they didn't have to wait in line and went right into the lobby where they waited behind those who also either won or reserved tickets. Because of her long trip to Kansas and then back home she decided she didn't want to wait and watch the movie and just wanted to be with their new dog. Justin also said he was too tired to wait and then have to sit so close to other people. He to wanted to play around with their new puppy so they decided to leave. When they arrived home 20 minutes later they were sitting on the balcony of their apartment facing the theater when all hell broke out.
They did name their new dog...Faith!
I will be starting a new hiking group for those who have dogs. Savanah, Justin and hopefully Heather Page will be the organizers.
God must love dogs because when you spell God backwards you have dog!!!
