Selenium Problem Solving Sessions

  • February 22, 2011 · 6:30 PM

Hi everyone!

To start our new year of meetups, we're going to have a couple different speakers present on a Selenium use case they've encountered. Similar to the White Board Night or the Lightning Talks meetup, the topics will be varied, but technical, and you'll walk away having learned something new.

Our four speakers are:

Eric Allen, a developer at Sauce Labs. He will be speaking about Selenium's Proxy Server. He'll share some neat things it can do besides just running Selenium, including fixing invalid SSL certificates, recording HTTP traffic, and injecting Javascript.

Dan Fabulich, Senior QA Engineer at Redfin. He will discuss using Selenium to automatically test files on disk, a technique that can substantially improve performance while reducing or even eliminating test flakiness.

Lalitha Padubidri, Lead QA Engineer at Riverbed. She'll go over their Python-based Selenium infrastructure, Selenium Grid, Factory Method, Pyperl, plus much more, in addition to problems/issues and plans for the future.

Alois Reitbauer, Technology Strategist at dynaTrace Software. He will share how to integrate your Selenium tests with dynaTrace Ajax, a free tool that allows automatic capturing of performance data, analysis of typical performance problems, and capturing exact execution information. This helps in analyzing performance and functional problems.

Many thanks to our friends at OPOWER for agreeing to host this meetup. See you in a few weeks!

Interesting set of contrasting talks - I learned several new things even though I have been a Selenium user for years. Try to keep the quality high in future talks.

This was a *great* way to kick off a new year of meetups. The four presentations were engaging and informative, and the format of shorter talks worked really well. Thanks to everyone who came out!

I really liked the "four horsemen" (horsepersons?) format. Trying to find a topic that can carry for an hour or more is challenging, and it can be an even bigger challenge for the speaker to keep their energy and the audience's energy up for that long.

The content was good, too. It was nice to have a mix of "tech internals", "real world use case", "snappy usage tips" and "live demo".

Time to write a wikipedia page about the "Four Horsemen Presentation Format".

Very informative meet-up. Liked all the presentations specially the one on Selenium proxy server & other one on using file systems for automation.

There are some hour meters on Townsend that should stop taking money at 6pm (last I checked -- but I've never parked here, I take Caltrain).

What's the best place to park around there? Public parking is not an option for me. Although technically unrelated question. Just want to know what the best parking option is around this location.

Hey, just joined (obviously). I started with the IDE a couple of years ago, and have been using RC with Ruby for the past year-plus. Just listened to the Selenium2 webinar and am excited about being able to run tests on our iPads. Thanks.
