Stripping down RemoteWebDriver

  • February 29, 2012 · 6:30 PM

Hi everyone! If you've been itching for a code-centric meetup, our next event at Huddler on Feb. 29th at 6:30pm is just the thing for you.

In this highly technical talk directed at intermediate to advanced Selenium users, Santiago Suarez Ordonez, Selenium contributor and Customer Success Engineer at Sauce Labs, will analyze the architecture of RemoteWebDriver, one the most useful drivers. RemoteWebDriver lets you run WebDriver tests remotely and use Selenium Grid or Sauce Labs to scale your testing capabilities.

He'll begin with a brief intro to what RemoteWebDriver is and pros and cons of using it instead of other drivers. Then he will dive in to the codebase to discuss:

  • Architecture design
  • The DesiredCapabilities object
  • The JSONWireProtocol
  • Binding implementations and caveats
  • Making your own bindings

This talk will help you better understand how to use RemoteWebDriver and make you aware of some issues you may run into if you do. We'll end the session with generous time for Q&A.

Thanks to our friends at Huddler for offering up their great meeting space and for supplying the food and drinks. We appreciate it!

Thanks Ken, that's definitely useful. I'll make sure I add more info about File Uploads. In case you need an example, the following should be a good start:

My one suggestion: spend less time on details of DesiredCapabilities since most of us will use defaults, show an example of file upload working.

I worked on Selenium only a couple of hours, and I was brought to the meetup by a colleague. Now I'm hooked! The presentation was clear, organized and informative.

was very well explained. Santiago is a very knowledgeable man. The amount of care he took to introduce us to the niceties of webdriver in the given time slot was awesome. Kudos!

Hi everyone! I mentioned this above in the post, but please come to the side entrance of Huddler that is located above the Chipotle attached to 525 Market St. The front doors lock at 6pm so this will save you some walking around :P

@suchitra There is metered parking on 1st street near the venue so that's your best bet if you're driving. Otherwise, Muni and Bart are good options. As for an online broadcast, we will not be streaming this live, but we will record it and post it a few days after the meetup.
