VoCamp New York - Vocabulary Building Workshop

  • Jul 25, 2009 · 9:30 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

VoCamp is an informal event where people can spend some dedicated time creating lightweight vocabularies/ontologies for the Semantic Web/Web of Data. The emphasis of the events is not on creating the perfect ontology in a particular domain, but on creating vocabularies that are good enough for people to start using for publishing data on the Web. The intention is to follow a "paper first, laptops second" format, where the modeling is done initially on paper and only later committed to code. VoCamps are oriented to hands-on technical work and practical outputs; any presentations and demos should be short, highly on-topic to the vocabulary development process, and limited in number, to leave plenty of time for hacking on new vocabularies. This is a two day session!

The workshop was very helpful in bringing together ideas for how to build ontologies and vocabularies. The shared knowledge of the group helped facilitate discussion and I'm still figuring out all that I learned!

Excellent!: Speakers, conversations & opinions, instruction, hands on both afternoons (see http://www.knoodl.com/ui/groups/LiveEntertainmentOntology). Emphasis on Agile Estimating & Pricing a bonus. Looking forward to more. THANK YOU to Marco, Christine, attendees & speakers.

I was not in attendance long enough to make a judgment. Marco and Christine are to be congratulated on making this happen. It struck me that a bit more organization might have been in order -- if only to have a pattern to diverge from. Nevertheless, big thank-you's are in order.
