What are your thoughts about the Semantic Web? Is it the next Big Thing?

I think SW is not the next big thing, it is lots and lots of little things. XML will play a part, syndication will play a part, RESTful services will play a part, search and data enrichment and so on will play a part. SW is bigger than RDF.

Which new technologies would you like to learn? Have you worked with any "semantic" technologies such as XML, RDF, OWL, GRDDL, or SPARQL?

I'd like to become more proficient with OWL, though I know the rudiments. Been working with XML since 1997, and with the RDF side of the equation since 2005.

Which applications or web sites will make the Semantic Web a reality in the public eye?

I don't think any one site or app will. Rather, SW will become expressed as increasingly intelligent applications, as sophisticated avatars and agents, as more accurate searches and more interconnected services. SW isn't an app - it's glue.

Introduction

I'm the editor of XMLToday.org and am currently working as XML Architecture consultant for Lockheed Martin designing the next generation National Archives metadata repository. I also contribute articles regularly to SemanticUniverse.com
