What are your thoughts about the Semantic Web? Is it the next Big Thing?

It has been the 'next big thing' for years, in certain niche areas. How its unique characteristics and opportunities are woven into 'old big things' is one thing we get to strive toward!

Which new technologies would you like to learn? Have you worked with any "semantic" technologies such as XML, RDF, OWL, GRDDL, or SPARQL?

Which applications or web sites will make the Semantic Web a reality in the public eye?

Is it a visible reality or an enabler? What are the real effects at small and large scale? That is what those of us who have focused on user interaction continue to grapple with. Always looking for great examples.

I am a user-centered designer and strategist focused on concepts and technologies that make messy stuff much more usable. Apart from my day job, I've been active for many years in the Sisyphean task of promoting user interaction for the Semantic Web.
