Polyglot Persistence: Hybrid Apps with MongoDB and RDBMS

Overview:

Polyglot persistence is about using multiple databases in concert with one another as part of a larger datastore ecosystem. The advantage is that your database layer uses a set of specialized tools to deliver overall value and functionality while simplifying data modeling by separating command and query responsibilities. The arrival of MongoDB and it’s flexible schemas further increases the possibilities of polyglot architectures.

In this presentation, we’ll show you how to architect your systems with the right tools, and show you new, flexible, and scalable methods to represent data. This presentation will explain:

How organizations are taking advantage of MongoDB alongside relational databases

Common schema design patterns and how to work with documents

Command query responsibility segregation (CQRS)

Bio:

Bryan Reinero is currently a Technical Evangelist at MongoDB. Previously he was a Consulting Engineer, working with MongoDB customers; and prior to that he developed the Java Driver for MongoDB. He has also worked as a Software Engineering Manager at Valueclick, leading the design and development of large-scale online marketing applications for advertising, retargeting, real-time bidding and campaign optimization. Before that, Bryan developed data analysis and signal processing software at NASA Ames Research Center.
