Hike at Point Reyes [Kelham Beach]

  • Aug 5, 2012 · 11:00 AM

Hi all,
Sorry for the laaate notice...just felt like I need to do a hike :)

This will be about 11 mile moderate+ hike [first couple of miles are strenuous] through a variety of landscapes [trees, meadows an great views] to the beautiful Kelham beach where we will have late lunch and a break.

Bring enough water and some food and snacks to share if u like. Remember, tastier snacks gets you more friends ;)

As usual, you are welcome to cut the lunch short and walk back if you need to leave early and if you think you can find your way back yourself :) [have a print out of the map]

We may also go for dinner/drinks after the hike if you like to join.

Hike highlights: Forests, views, beach and fun people :)

Meet at the Bear valley trailhead parking lot at 11:00 AM.

From San Francisco, take 101 north across the golden gate bridge. Near San Rafael, you'll see exits to 'richmond bridge' and 'san anselmo'.
Take the san anselmo exit which curves left and takes you to Sir Francis Drake blvd. and continue west on Sir Francis Drake to Olema.
At Olema, you will reach a T-intersection [by the Olema Inn]. That is hiway 1.
Turn right [onto hiway 1 north] and then after about a block turn left again into 'bear valley road'.
Cross a wide grassy valley and then, by a huge red barn-like building, turn left to the Bear Valley visitor center.

We can meet near the restrooms at the big dirt parking lot across from the visitor center.

Approximate GPS for the trailhead: N[masked] W[masked]

It seems no dogs allowed on the hike :(

See u soon :)

Disclaimer: Its your own responsibility to look after yourself on the hike if u decide to join us. You assume all the risks including sharing my food ;)

Note: As usual, since there is no 'maybe' option, feel free to sign up and not go or just show up without signing up...etc..etc..etc..etc...

It's about 6+ miles to the lunch and 4+ on the way back...
Yeah, the trail on the way back would be easy enough to follow.
Anyway, we are probably not going to spend 2 hours for lunch :-)

    Hi There,

How many hours of hiking will we get in before our lunch break? Trying to guestimate the time when I leave after the lunch break and hike back. I'm horrible w/ maps so is the hike back (presuming I'll have to do this solo) really straight forward and simple? Don't want to get lost on the way back. LOL.

    Pls advise. Thanks so much!

Well, my rough estimate would be sometime between 5 and 6pm :)
But, you are welcome to leave early from lunch break and hike back. Its easy on the way back.
