UX Eye - The Four Mobile Traps (And How to Avoid Them)

Through watching thousands of mobile usability tests, the folks at UserTesting.com have identified the four most common mistakes that companies make on their mobile websites and apps. After months of research, they're ready to reveal these traps for the first time here at our UX Eye meet up!

In this meet up you'll learn what these mobile traps are, how to recognize them, and what you can do to avoid them.

The Talk

Many companies struggle to achieve the same success in mobile that they have with their computer apps and websites. The features and business models that drive success on computers often produce failure in mobile.

When a mobile app or website struggles, it’s usually because the company made one of four common mistakes. This session, led by a veteran mobile industry strategist, will discuss these four mobile traps and how to avoid them, with video excerpts from “think aloud” user tests of real mobile apps and websites.

The Speaker

Michael Mace is a long-time mobile computing veteran. He was VP of Product Planning at Palm and spent ten years at Apple in a variety of roles including director of Mac platform marketing and director of worldwide customer & competitive analysis.

Interesting that we talked about mobile traps yesterday and I got this today. I was trying to do rating for this meetup on my Win Phone and the it gives me dropdown with 1-5 (instead of stars on website) without any explanation. Screenshots: 1. the dropdowns: http://t.co/2A6fqFdUOX 2. the options http://t.co/wTq0YoqqLx

And oh well, the IE on my Win Phone kept losing my comments because it tries to open some links I was visiting on the same page. So finally I had to put this comment via website.

I @ meetup on twitter about this, hopefully they will see it and do something.

I do appreciate the standard format of the UX Eye meetups, but this was a nice change. I wish I could have stayed for the whole talk. Good mix of people, and it was nice meeting them!

    Can you livestream the event?

Can you open up 11 more seats? I'm #11 on waiting list. Thanks

I'm asking, again, to please update your rsvp if you're not planning to come. There's 16 people in the waiting list that really want to come, and won't be able to if nobody changes their RSVP. The place is not enormous so I can't open more spots.

    Thanks!

I'm on the waitlist and really want to come, if any of you may not make it, could you mark your RSVP as cancelled? I would really appreciate your help. My experience was that, though, when I went to some other meetups, and only 30~40% people actually showed up for the events...

Hello everybody, looks like we're going to have a full house. If you changed your mind or cannot come, please change your RSVP so the people in the waiting list get a chance to come to the event.

    Thank you!
