Customized fixtures with Faker & Alice

Developing data-driven web applications requires appropriate test data - the so-called fixtures. They should be realistic and random, but also meet the business logic. For this purpose, they should be maintainable, scalable, readable and reproducible to load. Two libraries meet all requirements: Faker and Alice.

Maßgeschneiderte Fixtures mit Faker & Alice

Die Entwicklung datengestützter Web-Anwendungen erfordert passende Testdaten – die so genannten Fixtures. Am besten sind sie realitätsnah und zufällig verteilt, erfüllen aber auch die Geschäftslogik. Dazu sollten sie wartbar, skalierbar, leserlich und reproduzierbar zu laden sein. Zwei Bibliotheken meistern alle Anforderungen: Faker und Alice.

There is no “the one” framework, but you can build upon the right architecture. Symfony creates a solid foundation. However the framework contains several pitfalls even experienced developers may fall for, which may become obstacles along the path of your project. “How to Bundle” uses Symfony and its bundles as an example case to highlight architectural considerations one should take into account in order to avoid creating yet another “legacy” codebase.

Das richtige Framework zu wählen geht nicht, die richtige Architektur einer Software ist die wesentliche Entscheidung. Symfony als Basis zu verwenden ist ein solider Grundstein. Doch birgt dieses Framework auch viele Tücken, die auch erfahrenen Entwicklern häufig durch die Hände gleiten und sich im Laufe des Projekts als Steine im Weg herausstellen. "How to Bundle" stellt am Beispiel Symfony und den "Bundles" dar, wie schnell man auf den falschen Pfad geraten kann und wie einfach es ist, die Grenzen zu wahren, um sich nicht (wieder) in die nächste "Legacy"-Codebase zu verirren.
