Talk about software architecture with the myriad open source apps...

It will be insightful if more people share how they manage, internally, the many different apps that they have adopted within their ecosystem. Especially how, from a solutions architect point of view, that they let all these co-exists and even complement each other. Is there some common layer/web-service/file import-export that is done whenever apps work with other apps?

I can share from my experience about why I used to use open source apps a lot, and how I kept them in step with each other...and also why my other engagements did not want to go there.

It will be good if we use this chance to learn what options are out there for letting these systems all work together...interoperability is probably a good tag word for this.
