Welcome!
The purpose of our meetup is to learn and explore "blowing meditation" via shakuhachi by blowing and hearing.
The shakuhachi is a Japanese end-blown flute. It is traditionally made of bamboo, but versions now exist in wood and plastic. It was used by the monks of the Fuke school of Zen Buddhism in the practice of suizen (blowing meditation). Its soulful sound alone is great with jazz or blues.
Shakuhachi means 1 "chuk" 8 "chi" in old Korean measurement. When Shakuhachi was brought into Japan from Korea along with Buddhism, Monks used it for meditation and later developed into Komuso.
"Enlightenment through sound" has been a long meditation method, which is called "Gwanuhm" or "Kuan-Yin," so called in Chinese. BTW, "Uhm" or "Yin" means sound. "Enlightenment through flute blowing" is thereby rooted from Gwanuhm along with any Shakuhachi or Komuso philosophy.
Above all, it's very relaxing and meditative.
Deeply,
Molado
