NYC Shut Up & Write Meetup! - Columbus Circle

Join other writers for an hour of focused writing!

6-7 pm - Show up early, stake out a spot and either socialize or get a jump on writing.
7:00 - Start. Introductions, and we'll share what we're working on
7:05 - Get down to business. An hour of silence and solid writing!
8:05- Brief follow up. People are encouraged to share experiences & ideas, network or take off as they like. Feel free to keep writing if you've got the momentum going!

If you're spending too much time THINKING about writing, come and join us for a session of focused writing. It may just be "pipe-cleaning" for now, but you'll feel better showing up at the page. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice.

WHERE: Argo Tea, the big table in the back.  A block or so off the Columbus Circle Subway Station.

SOME TIPS:

Please, come on time! If you come late, we will have already started.
Bring headphones if you don't want outside noise distraction.

Please RSVP only if you can make it, and update as soon as possible if your plans change. We have had far too many no-shows.

You will see progress in your writing project by spending the minimum of a single hour per week on it. This is your practice/focus time, so I hope to see you there.

My apologies, but I arrived at Argo at 6:25; asked several people in the back of the tiny crowded place for "the writing group," as well as the clerk at the register, and got perplexed looks. I didn't see a Meetup sign as well, so left shortly afterward. Was I to early? Maybe too embarrassed to continue inquiring . . . .

Yeah, i was there too. The person I asked said she had been asked before but did not know. The big table was full and everyone was engaged in conversation. I finally got a seat at the other end of the room, sat for a while and did some writing and then left. The place was really jam packed even though I arrived early. I am not available this Wednesday but will try to attend again next week.

LOl. This kind of reminds me of when I first came a few Wednesdays ago. I walked in and went to the back and took one look, got a strange look back from a young lady sitting at her computer at one of the small tables on the right and turned around and walked right out. This doesn't seem right I thought. Anyway, after a few minutes I walked back in and just found a spot and sat at the table. It turns out that indeed a lot of the people there were not a part of the group and eventually left just before 7pm freeing up room for other group members. And we got started at 7. I imagine that many writers are shy people and it must be tough to just walk into a place like Argo and meet up with people you have never met. Especially since a lot of the people there when you arrive may be not part of the group and just there as a customer. That's the adventure of it though, eventually you catch on and become a part of the mystery, lol.

Sorry I missed last week. Work-related social obligations. I'll be back to shut up and write this week.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
