VOLUNTEERS: Railsbridge Workshop for Women: Beginner and Intermediate

Friday, July 12, 2013

7pm-9pm: Software Installfest: help students get a working RoR environment

Saturday, July 13, 2013

9:00am-4:30pm: Workshop

After Party - location TBA

You must fill out volunteer survey -- we need to know your full name so you can get into the building, and more about you so we can match you up with the right volunteer job.

We're looking for workshop volunteers! We always need teachers and TAs.

The loaction has a decent size, so we need as many teachers as possible because we can open this up to a lot of students.

We also have many other (non-technical) roles available, including check-in, keeping track of glitches in the documentation, taking pictures, posting throughout to the day to social networks, setting up rooms/equipment, etc. Finally, we always need people to take on childcare. Please let us know if you're interested or know of a babysitter who might be interested. (Childcare is our only "paid position" but volunteers are always the best recruiters).

Watch out for an email (to wherever your Meetup.com emails go) with a survey so we can figure out who will be there when, what everyone wants to teach/TA/volunteer for, etc.

We need your full name to give the Googlers letting you in (include it when you send in your survey response).

We will be teaching both the intermediate and the beginning curricula, depending on student interest.

Transportation: The address is about 3 miles South of the main Google campus, so don't think that your GPS is broken if you pass by all the usual exits. You'll want to get off at the US 101 exit to "Ellis St." If you are riding a bike, we have plenty of space for them...and showers if you think you're stinky.

We'll be teaching the regular Suggestotron curriculum to anyone who wants it. Since we also have the new intermediate curriculum we can teach that if anyone is interested in using it for the more advanced groups. You can find all the different RailsBridge curricula here: http://docs.railsbridge.org/.

Please bring your laptop and power supply to the workshop.

We'll have snacks Friday night during the Installfest, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Vegetarian options will be available.

I can volunteer to help instruct, but I might not be able to make it to the setup thing on Friday. What subjects do you need help with?

Is there a carpool going from San Francisco to the event on Saturday that has an extra space? I'll help pay for gas!

Also going only on Saturday from Pacifica, if you haven't heard from anyone else, I can make a detour and grab you. LMK

I think I said this in the survey, but I likewise can't make it on Friday night. Also, I'll be driving down to the event from the city on Saturday morning and would be happy to take a passenger or two. Anyone interested, please send me a message to figure out logistics.

Hi! I'm coming in from San Francisco as a volunteer and it would be difficult for me to make it into the installfest on Friday night. Is it ok if I miss it? So sorry about this!

I attended the last install fest and would be able to help on Friday for installation. Started working in ROR.
