Heads Up: BAADAUG Extend Your Google App Engine App with Flex: Tony (SF)
Hosted by Silicon Valley Web Devs

RSVP: http://baadaug.org/
Google App Engine (GAE) enables you to build and host web apps on the same systems that power Google applications. App Engine offers fast development and deployment; simple administration, with no need to worry about hardware, patches or backups; and effortless scalability. Check it out! (http://code.google.com/appengine/)
Working with the skeletal application that he created for us in last month's meeting, Tony will show us:
- A custom Flex Client SDK that uses HTTP and BlazeDS to communicate to my wrapper over GAE SDK allowing you to write client side GAE apps in ActionScript 3.0;
- Working with Data on GAE is not like a RDBMS, learn about the datastore service and the JDO access;
- How to use Task Queue when you want to use threads in long running tasks; and
- Explain how he manages his Google App Engine addiction.
Tony will be demonstrating:
- an AIR based tool I wrote that helps Flex developers copy their stuff up in a WAR file to be deployed on GAE;
- how an application can write files to the cloud;
- an AIR base admin tool allow developers and admin people; and
- an alternative to google admin.
Through-out the session Tony provides tips and pointers on where people can download the admin tools and their source. If you missed the February meeting or would like to review it, you may do so by viewing the recorded session (http://experts.adobeconnect.com/p82347590/). Tony continues to update his Flash Powertools blog (http://www.flashpowertools.com/?page_id=72) with detailed information about installing, configuring, and using the Google App Engine. A brief review of this material will be a helpful preparation for the meetings.
