Easy Hike @ Corriganville Park / Simi Valley

Details

  • Dog-Friendly Hike *

One year ago the first hike of the Simi Valley Hiking Group was held at Corriganville Park. I think it only appropriate that the first hike of 2011 be held there too ... it's an easy walk/hike around Corriganville Park in Simi Valley (one of my favorite local parks to get out and stretch) with some minimal elevation gain (I recall it being something like 100' elevation gain). Perfect for those of us that haven't been out hiking for a while ... and you'll definitely be home in plenty of time for Super Bowl festivities!

Afterward, for those that are interested in helping coordinate activities for the group, we can meet and go over hikes and select some dates for the next couple of months.

Corriganville Park is a lovely 246 acre park with a rich film history (about 3500 movies were made at this location). It's got something for everyone -- an easy, meandering hike down an oak shaded trail on both sides of a small creek, with interpretive signs detailing both nature and some of the movies filmed here) and spectacular sandstone formations.

When & Where: We'll meet at the far end of the parking lot at 11 a.m.

Cost: Just $1 to me to help offset the monthly hosting fee charged by meetup.com

Directions: From 118 exit on Kuehner Drive. Drive 1.1 miles south to Smith Road and turn left. Continue 0.4 miles into Corriganville Park. Drive to the far end of the parking lot.

What to Bring: the usual ... water, sunscreen, hat, snack.

Dogs on leash are permitted in the park.
