music & performance: WOMAD fieldtrip

what we are doing

We’ll be carpooling up to New Plymouth to attend the WOMAD (World of Music and Dance) Festival at the TBS Bowl of Brooklands. Once there, we will set up our tents around Martin’s gazebo. Then we’ll have the opportunity for enjoyable learning at:
• Music and Dance Performances
• Music and Dance Workshops with Performers
• Impromptu Drum Circles and Jam Sessions
• The Artist in Conversation Programme
• Cooking Sessions and the WOMAD Cook-Off
• The Human Library, where you can borrow a Human Book
And as we play, dance, learn, and listen, we may come up with mini-chalkles for each other. Matt and Martin hope to get a drum circle or two going….

It begins on Friday, 15 March. Gates Open at 9:00 am, and stage entertainment starts around 6:00 pm. Festivities end around 11:30 pm on Sunday, 17 March. Some of us will be heading up early on Friday to claim and set up our camping spot.

what you will learn

About world music and culture, including drumming, dancing, singing, cooking and eating.

what to bring

We suggest you bring musical instruments, drums, cymbals, etc.

The WOMAD people suggest bringing the following:

Tent and pegs; Torch with extra batteries; Groundsheet; Pillow; Sleeping bag/blanket; Toiletries; Wet wipes; Towel; Rubbish bags; Insect repellent; Cell phone; Something comfy to sit on (only sand chairs are permitted in the venue these are the lowest type of carry/camping chairs); Sunscreen; Hat; Sunglasses; Money and ID; Chapstick; Lip balm; Waterproof jacket; Clothing for hot and cold weather; Spare shoes; Camera (with spare film and/or batteries); Spare car keys (just in case!); … and last but not least, Tickets. —We wonder about the need for wet wipes and the obsession with lip-care, but that’s there list.

cost: 300 approx

The three-day pass with camping costs about $300. If you plan to go, you should BUY YOUR TICKET ASAP- they do sell out. You will also need to buy food and contribute to the cost of getting up there. We will each be individually responsible for our own food and drink, which can be brought along or bought at stalls. NOTE - We are not allowed to bring alcohol.

how to pay and book

Pay directly through Tickektek

our cancelation policy
