Details

Join us for the St. Louis Skeptics in the Pub. Skeptics in the Pub is an informal social event designed to promote fellowship and social networking among skeptics, critical-thinkers, and other like-minded individuals. It provides an opportunity for skeptics, rationalists, and science enthusiasts to talk, share ideas in a casual, relaxed atmosphere, and discuss whatever topical issues come to mind. But most importantly, it's about having fun while promoting skepticism, science, and rationality. In addition to the fun people, bocce ball, and great conversation, Skeptics in the Pub sometimes features lively presentations from scientists, philosophers, magicians & mentalists, activists, and others who are passionate about the scientific outlook.

Our hosts will be Michael Blanford, co-founder of the The Skeptical Society of St. Louis and Director of Education of the James Randi Educational Foundation, and Michael McKay, president of The Skeptical Society of St. Louis. At 7PM, we will have a presentation by British philosopher Julian Baggini. He is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Philosophers' Magazine (https://www.philosophypress.co.uk/) and is the author of many books, including Atheism: A Very Short Introduction (https://www.amazon.com/Atheism-Very-Short-Introduction-Introductions/dp/0192804243), The Pig That Wants to Be Eaten: 100 Experiments for the Armchair Philosopher (https://www.amazon.com/Pig-That-Wants-Eaten-Experiments/dp/0452287448), and What's It All About?: Philosophy and the Meaning of Life (https://www.amazon.com/Whats-All-About-Philosophy-Meaning/dp/0195315790). He will be giving a talk based on his book The Duck That Won the Lottery: and 99 Other Bad Arguments (https://www.amazon.com/Duck-That-Won-Lottery-Arguments/dp/184708043X) in which he will discuss bad thinking and how to avoid it.

Jack Patrick's has been a great host to St. Louis Skeptics in the Pub since the beginning. To maintain this relationship we ask that outside drinks not be brought into the event and that we support our host through the purchase of food and beverages.
