Café Inquiry: Positive Thinking for Chronic Pain - Helpful or Harmful?

Details
Café Inquiry is a monthly casual discussion group run by CFI Vancouver. Come along and enjoy afternoon tea and stimulating discussion with fellow freethinkers on a variety of topics.
Is positive thinking an effective treatment for chronic pain, or could positive thinking be detrimental to ones health? In order to answer this question, we will look at: the physiology of pain; the differences between acute and chronic pain; and the causal relationships between our thoughts, emotions and our physical health. We will also examine how privilege and fear can influence beliefs about chronic pain; and to what extent our beliefs directly affect the lives of individuals who live with chronic pain.
Our presenter is Marilee Welch. She is the Events Coordinator for CFI Vancouver and skeptical activist.
Café Inquiry is free but donations are requested to keep the program running.
We will be in room 1505 of SFU Harbour Centre.
