In 1971, during Darrel's wild and crazy undergraduate days at Friends University (Wichita), he and his young wife set out to take their honeymoon in the Grand Canyon while also studying the Havasupai Indians for Darrel's senior project. Some would say that was a crazy place for a honeymoon, but they would be wrong. The Supai home in the bottom of the Grand Canyon is one of the most beautiful places on earth and the Supai are an interesting people. Darrel studied every aspect of their culture, including, as you might expect, their sex lives. Even at the tender age of 21, he was interested in people's sex lives. Is that really a surprise?
This won't be your typical Freethought talk. You will learn about minerals, language, migratory histories in the Southwest, water quality, beautiful waterfalls, snakes, scorpions, and of course religion. How the Baptists and Mormons compete to convert the Supai and how the Supai played the missionaries to their advantage.
