SoCal Piggies Meeting at DreamHost

Hello everybody,

Chris Mueller from DreamHost offered to host our next meeting. It will happen on Thu. Nov. 10 at 7 PM at their offices.

Address: 707 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 5050 Los Angeles, CA 90017 (I'll send out parking info at some point)

Agenda:

Tommi Virtanen (Senior Developer @ DreamHost) - "Concurrency, Parallelism, Events, Asynchronicity, Oh My". The talk will be about threads, processes, queues & workers, multiprocessing, gevent, twisted; a little bit of compare & contrast approach.

Jonathan LaCour (VP of Software Development @ DreamHost) - "Python Metaclasses"

DreamHost will provide food and drinks. Please let me know if you're planning on attending so we have an idea on the number of people to expect.

Thanks!

Grig

Good talks - regarding concurrency, if you're doing web stuff, take a good look at gevent (or it's cousin eventlet which doesn't require a C-extension). They're super powerful for building servers, scrapers, etc that are inherently I/O limited. It's reasonable to serve thousands of comet/websocket connections for something like chat using a single python process on medium sized hardware.

Thanks for the reminder, Paul! We do have parking info:

Here are some details about parking from Chris Mueller:

The parking will be at the Standard hotel.bar parking lot, right
across the street from our building. It's on the corner of Hope and
6th Street. Tell the attendant you are there for the event at
DreamHost in the Aon building, and they'll allow you to pay with a
    voucher.

It will be the parking lot that is at street level.

    Again our address is:
    707 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 5050
