Hike: Nature in the Fall: Berries, Nuts and Seeds

Saturday, Oct. 19: Nature in the Fall: Berries, Nuts and Seeds: 10-12. We will walk in the Wildflower Preserve and some neighboring areas and observe the fruits of fall. Numerous stops to hear about and look at nature, so the pace will be easy to moderate. Meet at the Wildflower and Forest Preserve, next to the Dog Park. From South Orange Ave. drive south on Crest Drive, which is near the summit of the mountain, go 0.5 miles to the barrier and turn right to a long parking lot. We will meet in the middle of the lot. Starting on S. Orange Ave. there are signs to the dog park. Leader: Dave Hogenauer,[masked]-0824.

Thanks for a great and informative walk, Dave! It's great to learn about the native plants of one of my favorite places. I had learned "leaves of three- leave it be" as a child but "hairy rope- don't be a dope" and the tale of the fungi and the algae that took a "lichen" to each other was new.
