Public Data

Following the discussion last night about a Hack/Reduce [1], I took a
quick look at data sources. What others do people know of?

== Amazon

The Amazon hosted public data is at:

http://aws.amazon...

Currently 51 datasets available.

== data.gov.uk

http://data.gov.u... has various things like COINS (the Treasury
spending database - this is also available in RDF due a colleague of
mime) or the ONS (Office of National Statistics) figures on deaths in
England and Wales (wonder what that correlates with?) or the consumer
trends database.

UK census data is avilable via:
  http://www.ons.go...
which I haven't looked at.

== data.gov

http://explore.da...

The US is less organised but has more raw data.

Maybe see if mining similar US and UK data shows interesting differences.

== Freebase

There are also fresh dumps of FreeBase:

http://download.f...

and it's described:
http://wiki.freeb...

and there are subsets of a more manageable size in

http://download.f...

(the whole dump is on Amazon as well)
