Tech Startup School 2012

From: James R.
Sent on: Tuesday, May 8, 2012 10:54 PM

Dear all,

I’ve been asked by Alastair Watson, of Science City Bristol – food sponsor to SouthWest Founders – to forward details of this year’s Tech Start-up School. I attended these sessions myself the year before last and they were outstanding. I can recommend them to anybody starting out on the long journey that is tech entrepreneurship.

Alastair will be at our meet-up tonight  (assuming you’re reading this on Wednesday!) to answer your questions on the sessions. I will also be happy to share my experiences.

See below for full details of the sessions.

Best regards,

Tech Startup School 2012 – Get Your Tech Business Off the Ground!

Launch Event – Starting Up and Planning: TSS Overview

Date – Monday 14th May 2012

Venue – Bristol and Bath Science Park: Bristol and Bath Science Park

Time – 6.00 pm (presentations to start at 6.30 pm)

Refreshments – Buffet and drinks from 6.00 pm

This popular series of seminars for early-stage technology and science entrepreneurs is starting next week. If you are starting up your tech business; thinking about getting your idea commercialised; or would like to see whether a business startup is for you; then you should come along to Tech Startup School (TSS 2012). The lectures and workshops covers all the main areas you will need to consider for your business, with real-life entrepreneurs giving their experiences of going through it – warts and all!

TSS 2012 is aimed at early-stage business startups in the technology, and/or science, space. You may be just getting going, or trying to design your product or service while still in employment or contracting. You could be on your own, or working with a small group of colleagues. TSS 2012 is designed to educate, inspire and help you develop the right contacts to start and grow your business. The subjects TSS 2012 will cover are:

·         Starting up and Planning: 14th May Startup & Planning - Bristol & Bath Science Park

·         Sales and Marketing: 21st & 23 May Sales & Marketing - Bristol    Sales & Marketing - Bath

·         Raising Finance: 28th & 30th May Finance - Bristol    Finance - Bath

·         Building the Team: 11th & 13th June  Building the team - Bristol    Building the team - Bath

·         Making Your Pitch: 18th and 20th June  Making the Pitch - Bristol    Making the Pitch - Bath

·         Making it Happen: 27th June  Making it Happen - Bristol & Bath Science Park

Each seminar will consist of a keynote speaker who will give an authoritative view on the subject, followed by a presentation by an entrepreneur covering the practical aspects. We will then break into groups so that delegates can work with the experts on their own business issues in the area of the evening’s theme. The seminars are running in both Bristol and Bath – we have different speakers for the four parallel events, so you can attend all, or just the ones in your area. The first and last event are joint Bristol/Bath events held at the Bristol & Bath Science Park at Emersons Green.

Come along to the whole series for only £50 (£100 for business professionals – solicitors, accountants, consultants, etc.): TSS Overview, or choose the specific events you want to come to for £12.50 each (£15 for professionals). TSS 2012 is organised by BEN (Bath & Bristol Enterprise Network) and the Bristol branch of the BCS (British Computer Society).

If you think this is not for you, but know someone who may benefit, please pass this invitation on. This is open to anyone, not just BEN or BCS members.
