St. Louis is a great place to try speedskating. We have two extremely well-run local clubs - Gateway Speedskating and Metros Speedskating, who have skaters of all ability levels and ages.

 

Read this if you are an absolute beginner:

Speedskating is intimidating at first sight, especially if your only contact with it has been watching it on TV. But it shouldn't be. You don't have to be fast to get started. If you can skate two laps around a standard ice rink without falling, at your own pace, you're ready to give this a shot. If anything, you'll have fewer ingrained bad habits that need to be broken. Even if you're not interested in racing, speedskating is a hard cardio workout that is easy on your joints. Check the introductory document in the discussion board for all the information you need to get started.

 

Read this if you are already familiar with speedskating:

We will be posting meetups for those who want to get some extra ice time in beyond the club sessions. Or if you are currently unaffiliated with a club, this will give you a chance to skate with others with similar interests. We will also be organizing trips to regional meets for those who are interested.

 

Important: we follow all rink rules! While in an open skate session, we always skate safely and at a prudent speed.
