Lego Mindstorms afternoon

Details

Come join us this Sunday for fun with Legos and robots! There will be a bunch of us there, playing with Lego Technics parts and the Lego Mindstorms platform. If you're new to Mindstorms, check out these links:

http://mindstorms.lego.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_Mindstorms In addition to the two Mindstorms kits that we already have at SplatSpace, Kristin Bedell will be there with quite a few additional kits. First priority for time hands-on with the Legos will go to the folks who are volunteering for Robotics Camp at Efland-Cheeks Elementary School on February 26th. If you have your own Lego Technics parts and/or a Mindstorms kit, please do bring it!

If you or anyone you know has serious skills with Lego Technics and/or Mindstorms, please come show us how it's done. Many of us are beginners and we'd love to learn from folks who know.

We're looking forward to seeing you there!

Kind regards, Justis P.S. If you're interested in volunteering for Robotics Camp, be sure to read Kristin's email below. If you bring your Volunteer Form on Sunday, you can hand it directly to her then:

From: Kristin Bedell Date: February 7, 2011 8:08:24 PM EST To: Kristin Bedell Subject: Robot Camp at Efland-Cheeks Elementary School Efland-Cheeks Elementary School in Efland, NC, ( http://www.orange.k12.nc.us/ec/ ) is seeking volunteers to assist with our 5th grade Robotics Camp on Saturday, February 26, 2011. Camp will begin at 8:30 am and run until 3:00 pm.

During our last camp, student teams built sumo vehicles. ( http://kdbedell.weebly.com/eagle-robotics.html ) We will either do the same activity or use line-following/maze challenges for this camp, depending on the personnel we have available to assist with the students.

These camps are part of our Toyota Tapestry Large Grant Award: http://www.nsta.org/pdfs/2010TAPESTRYWinners-ScienceLiteracy.pdf

If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the attached Orange County Schools' Volunteer Form and return it to Michael Gilbert at the address listed on the form. Be sure to write "Kristin Bedell" at the top right corner so that the "approved" note gets directed to me. Thanks so much! It makes SUCH a difference in the lives of our students!
