Webscraping with R

Details
Please join us for the next DC R Users Group Meetup where Robert Vesco will be talking about webscraping with R. R now has the capability to do sophisticated and efficient webscraping that will satisfy all but the most demanding projects. This allows the analyst/researcher to stay within one programming environment for their data needs. This presentation will focus on using the XML package with its XPATH querying capabilities and a full example will be explored. Practical tips will be given for those embarking on larger scale webscraping projects. Lastly, the R code for the illustrated example is embedded as an attachment in the presentation, allowing participants to execute and learn from the code at their convenience.
Robert is a doctoral student at the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business. His research interest includes entrepreneurship and its role in economic and social development. Before academia, he worked for several startups in both managerial and consulting positions. Prior to his private sector experiences, he worked in the development field assisting small businesses. His website is https://www.robertvesc... (https://www.robertvesco.com).
