Description:

Come shoot the moon rising over Boulder from Chautauqua Park.

It should rise about 4:22pm right over Boulder and be nearly full. NOTE: the sun does not set until 4:53pm so we will have a very much lighter shot than the orange one shown below. We should get conditions like the lighter blue shot. The other example is what can be done with compositing. Let me know if you'd like to do a lesson on that at a later date.

We will meet at the parking lot and then hike up the trail just a few minutes (about a quarter mile) to a nice flat spot with good views to the city and back to the Flaitrons.

We will meet an hour before it rises and discuss compositions and exposure settings and tripod techniques. See some really good info on shooting it with a big zoom here (http://photographylife.com/how-to-photograph-the-supermoon).

You need a tripod, cable or remote release and at least 200mm of zoom for the shot I'm envisioning. My idea for this shot is similar to the one below which I shot at the August test shoot.

By 5:30pm the moon will be too high for a great composition that includes the ground but you might want to hang around and shoot the Flatirons by moonlight. See this page (https://www.meetup.com/stevegandyphotography/events/172634452/) for the photos from one of those shoots.
